The story leads with a genuine reversal: a build success rate below 50% is a broken state, not merely a slow one, which makes this a Turnaround rather than a pure Efficiency play. The efficiency gains are large and concrete (75% faster builds, 50% lower compute costs) and earn a secondary tag, but the headline and opening frame the before-state as collapse and embarrassment, not as a cost problem. The piece is strengthened by candid self-assessment from the engineer on record, which makes the metrics land with credibility.
The shared, live Datadog dashboard checked daily by the whole org. Making a single health metric visible to everyone and tying it to a named goal (95%) created the accountability loop that sustained the improvement after the initial fix.
