The story leads with something Mitsubishi Electric genuinely could not do before: run a single design language across dozens of unrelated business units and open it to external partners as shared co-creation infrastructure. That is a net-new capability, not merely a faster version of existing design work. The efficiency gains (sprint duration halved, prototype time from two weeks to one day, support inquiries near zero) are substantial but secondary, which is a close call worth noting.
The 'theming' architecture detail, one common component base with per-business-unit brand customization, gives the case study a concrete mechanism that readers in large, multi-brand organizations can immediately picture applying to their own situation.
