Why it works

The story leads with a capability Brex simply did not have before: live bank connections for underwriting customers at any US or international financial institution, not a faster version of something they already did. The before-state is concrete and limiting, institutions outside a supported list forced customers into monthly manual statement uploads, which makes the New Capability framing clean. Efficiency is a real second layer since Plaid also reduces administrative overhead, but the opening problem is about what Brex could not do, not what cost too much.

Steal this

Anchor the capability gap in a specific operational failure (unsupported banks forcing manual uploads) before introducing the solution. It makes the before-state visceral and justifies the switch without needing a dramatic turnaround narrative.
