The story earns its turnaround tag because the before-state is concrete and damaging: a disk corruption event in May 2023 that left three large tables in recovery for months and froze the Gen 2 roadmap for 18 months. The mechanism is well explained, covering hypertable configuration, bulk-insert rewrites, tiered storage, and the compression tradeoff, giving a reader enough detail to evaluate the approach. The case study also does an honest job of reporting the compression ratio tradeoff (98% drops to 50-60% for query performance), which adds credibility rather than inflating the numbers.
Report the tradeoff honestly: stating that compression dropped from 98% to 50-60% to maintain query performance makes every other metric in the story more believable. Admitting a limitation builds more trust than omitting it.
